BWAP - Borneo Wildlife Ambassador Programme
The Borneo Wildlife Ambassador Programme (BWAP) initiated by 1StopBorneoWildlife is an immersive, hands-on educational initiative designed for school children between the ages of 13 and 16, aimed at cultivating a deeper connection with the rich biodiversity of Borneo. The program provides young participants with the opportunity to explore and understand the vital role Bornean wildlife plays in the ecosystem, as well as the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect these species and their habitats.
Wildlife Exploration and Mentorship : Through this dynamic program, students engage in guided trips and talks led by experienced mentors. These mentors serve as role models, demonstrating the values of conservation and sustainable living, as well as encouraging the children to take a proactive role in environmental protection.
Social Media Campaigns and Advocacy: A key element of the BWAP is empowering students to use social media as a platform for change. Participants are tasked with creating and executing campaigns that raise awareness about endangered species and the pressing environmental issues Borneo faces. For example, campaigns like “Do Not Eat Turtle Eggs” aim to educate the public about the illegal trade and consumption of turtle eggs, while “Do Not Keep Songbirds in Cages” highlights the detrimental effects of trapping birds in captivity for the pet trade. Students learn to craft compelling messages, create visual content, and engage with audiences to spread vital conservation messages.
By the end of the BWAP, participants are not only equipped with the knowledge and skills to become active wildlife advocates but are also inspired to pursue further education and careers in conservation and environmental protection. The program aims to create a new generation of environmental leaders who are passionate about safeguarding the future of Borneo's unique and endangered wildlife. Another great initiative from 1StopBorneoWildlife.
